Medication Specialist

Reports to: Director of Clinical Services

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Job Summary: The medication specialist will provide medication training, oversight and support to clients. This will include but is not limited to attending medication appointments, reviewing doctors orders, transcribing medication sheets, reviewing medication related goals and engaging in medication related interventions.

Essential Functions :

  • Coordinate and monitor program participants' daily medication schedule providing support and assistance where needed.
  • Provide support and medication supervision to program participants.
  • Administer medications according to doctors orders.
  • Provide education regarding medication names, dosages, and side effects to clients.
  • Monitor and document medication administration.
  • Maintain MAP certification.
  • Adhere to all MAP regulations.
  • Provide transportation to program participants as needed.
  • Transcribe prescription information and complete daily medication counts.
  • Maintain ongoing constructive and productive communications with program/agency staff and service providers.
  • Communicate program participant's progress, mental status, and any changes in daily notes.
  • Follow Agency, division and program policies and procedures and perform duties in accordance with the policies and procedures.
  • Attend trainings as assigned; maintain necessary certifications (CPR/First Aid, SOLVE, MAP, etc.).
  • Attendance at supervision and staff meetings.
  • Responsible for monitoring the up-keep of the program site.
  • Ensure that clients are treated with dignity and respect in accordance with Advocates' Human Rights policy.
  • Strictly follow all agency Performance Standards

Qualification/Education/Experience/Personal Characteristics:

  1. BA/BS in related field; or HS diploma/GED and 1 year related experience.
  2. Must hold a valid drivers' license.
  3. Must have access to an operational and insured vehicle and be willing to use it to transport clients.
  4. Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  5. Must possess the ability to use good judgment.
  6. Sensitivity to the needs of the clients and the ability to treat them with respect and dignity.
  7. High energy level, excellent interpersonal skills and ability to function in a team atmosphere.
  8. Ability to read English and communicate effectively in the primary language of the program(s) to which he/she is assigned.
